Qualcomm changes course: instead of Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 will be released
Qualcomm is preparing to surprise the mobile processor market: according to the latest reports, instead of the expected Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 2, the manufacturer will present Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. The new flagship SoC with the code number SM8850 will be announced at the Snapdragon Summit, which starts on 23 September.
Here's What We Know
Such a decision, according to insiders, is due to Qualcomm's desire to simplify and unify the nomenclature of its top chips. Simultaneously with the Elite-version is expected to release Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, which will be slightly less powerful, but will still enter the premium segment.
What is known about the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5:
- 2 main cores - 4.61GHz (Galaxy S26 has 4.74GHz)
- 6 performance cores - 3.63 GHz
- Adreno 840 GPU - 1.2 GHz
- AnTuTu v11 score - over 4,000,000 points.
It is expected that the first smartphone with the new chip could be the OnePlus 15, and later it will be joined by flagship launches from Xiaomi, Honor, iQOO and Realme
