Mercedes-Benz Vans uses autonomous robotics at its Düsseldorf plant to reduce energy waste and simplify maintenance.

Here's What We Know

The robot dog, nicknamed Aris, detects leaks and malfunctions, while the drone automates the counting of containers, freeing up employees for more important tasks. The autonomous drone also performs container inventory. It identifies and counts cargo modules by shape and dimensions using artificial intelligence, freeing employees from routine work.

Both robots are integrated into cloud services. This allows them to interact with each other and to communicate with other plants in the future.

The Düsseldorf facility produces the Sprinter and eSprinter vans and has an area of 325,000 square metres. Assembly of the current generation eSprinter starts in 2023. Mercedes-Benz Vans calls the introduction of robotic systems "a key step towards the digital future of the production network".
