Mercedes-Benz will prematurely end production of its two relatively fresh electric car models - the EQE sedan and the EQE SUV crossover. According to Autocar, both models will leave the assembly line by 2026, that is, just a few years after the debut: the EQE was introduced in 2021, and the EQE SUV - in 2022.

Here's What We Know

Insiders call the reason for the revision of the electrification strategy of Mercedes-Benz and the desire to get rid of duplication in the model range. Sales also leave much to be desired: in the U.S. demand for the EQE and EQE SUV last year fell by 39% to 11,660 cars.

This news comes as no surprise, as the media previously reported that the German automaker would stop production of some EQ models for the US.

As of today, the price of the EQE starts at $64,950 and goes up to $96,600 for the AMG version. The EQE SUV also starts at $64,950, but its AMG version is more expensive, starting at $97,400.

According to Autocar, both electric cars will get "indirect" replacements by the upcoming C-Class and GLC EV. That said, Mercedes has previously announced the development of an electric E-Class that will be the direct successor to the EQE in 2027. The model is expected to get a classic three-volume body and a long wheelbase, emphasising status.
