Diia was the first in the world to introduce artificial intelligence in public services - how it works
While Apple has almost managed to add driver's licences to its wallet app, and many countries do not yet have public digital access to government documents, Ukraine's state portal Diia has added a chatbot based on a neural network. Diia.AI became the world's first national AI assistant that not only provides advice but also provides public services directly in a chat.
Here's How It Works
After logging in to the portal, you just need to select Diia.AI and write in a natural language what you need to do. The chatbot receives personal information from state registers, and can clarify the details of the request with the user. Currently, the feature is available only on the portal, and the app is expected to be launched soon. You can see an example of the work in Mikhail Fedorov's Telegram.
What can Diia.AI do right now?
- Ordering certificates: just write "give me a certificate of income" and it will appear in your account.
- Searching for services for life situations: giving birth to a child, starting a business, housing damage - the assistant will tell you what to do and how to arrange it.
- Checking data in registers: for example, your individual entrepreneur.
- Advice on grants for veterans, entrepreneurs, students, etc.
Currently, the feature is in open beta mode - users can ask questions, test, and provide feedback. In general, the system works reliably, and users can leave feedback if they detect incorrect behaviour. In the future, we plan to extend the chatbot's functionality to almost all portal functions.
Why It Matters
Ukraine has become the first country in the world to integrate an AI assistant into a government portal and provide real services. The state is moving away from the policy of live queues and bureaucratic mechanisms; inquiries can be generated in the app and consulted with competent artificial intelligence.
