Adobe has made a big step into the world of mobile video editing: the company is launching Premiere Mobile, a full-fledged video editor for smartphones and tablets aimed at content creators for TikTok, Instagram, or YouTube. The app will be released on 30 September on iPhone and iPad, and the Android version will appear a little later. The main feature is that it is free and does not leave any watermarks, which already puts it head and shoulders above many competitors. Adobe is clearly betting on mobile editing as the new normal for creatives.

The release notes that competitors hiding useful features for paid access, or stuffing the app with ads or watermarks is bad, Adobe will change that. According to the release, the app will be free, won't be watermarked, and only cloud storage in Creative Cloud or generative AI features will be paid for.

What Premiere Mobile offers:

  • A touch-friendly interface - easy to use with both your finger and stylus
  • Export up to 4K HDR - suitable for both amateurs and professionals
  • Adobe AI tools: generation of sound effects based on a text request (this feature is likely to be paid)
  • Free background tracks from Adobe Stock
  • Direct export to social networks: TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts
  • Synchronisation with Premiere Pro on PC - you can start editing on your phone and finish on your computer

It sounds very sweet, not at all like Adobe, the company that charges $60 to cancel a paid Creative Cloud subscription.
