Apple has developed a unique USB Type-C port for the iPhone Air
We can argue for a long time about how popular the iPhone Air will become, but we cannot but agree that it has become a real challenge for Apple's engineers. One of the extraordinary solutions was the USB connector. Despite the fact that the thickness of the USB Type-C connector is 2.6 mm and the thickness of the iPhone Air is 5.6 mm, it should be borne in mind that the display takes up part of the internal space on top. It was necessary to make sure that despite the thin walls, the connector was not too fragile and would not be broken out along with the cable during charging.
Apple found a non-standard solution to preserve the elegant design, the company created a unique titanium connector using industrial 3D printing. This way, the iPhone Air has an even stronger connector than other iPhones. The change in the internal structure of the connector did not affect its compatibility - all cables will work without any problems. But if the user still finds a way to damage the USB, not every service centre will be able to replace it.
