Chinese ministry reveals new Toyota Corolla design

Toyota is preparing an update of the Corolla. The first reliable images were published by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). This is a usual practice for MIIT, which registers all new models before they go on sale.

Here's What We Know

The current generation Toyota Corolla has been on the market for six years. Despite a slight facelift in some markets by 2025, the sedan's age is beginning to take its toll. At the same time, a fundamentally new generation is not expected, so Toyota is preparing another update of the current platform, at least for the Chinese market.

The main changes are in the front. Headlights are now divided into two blocks: on top - a C-shaped contour with a continuous LED-strip in the centre, and the low and high beam are brought to the lower part of the bumper and framed by black inserts. Below there is a dark horizontal grille and a larger front spoiler.

From the side, the update is limited to new wheel discs, and at the rear, the lights have received a different graphic and are now connected by a luminous jumper. The bumper remains the same.

Photos of the interior in the database traditionally MIIT is not available, so it is not yet clear whether the Corolla will retain the current front panel or get a design in the spirit of the new RAV4 with a larger display multimedia system.

Engines for the Chinese version remain the same: a hybrid unit based on a 1.8-litre motor with 98 hp with NCM battery and a 2.0-litre engine with 171 hp.
