"Zoomer revolution" in Nepal: debating in Discord and choosing the head of government with ChatGPT
Since 8 September, the world's media have been actively covering the civil protests in Nepal, which for the first time in the world's history led to the shutdown of all popular social networks - Facebook, Whatsapp, X, Instagramm and others - in the country.
The core of the protest, of course, was the young generation and that's why the riots in Nepal were called the "Zoomer Revolution".
We will not dwell on the social and political aspects of the events in Nepal, but will tell you how modern technology has allowed us to avoid a political vacuum.
Here's What We Know
Having secured the resignation of the president, prime minister, key ministers and senior officials, the Zoomers were faced with the fact that someone had to take over and were asked to nominate candidates to form an interim government.
The youth decided that modern problems required a modern solution and moved to Discord for discussion, where several hundred thousand people gathered. Due to the large number of trolls, lack of clear understanding of the problem and its solution, poor moderation and the age of most of the speakers, the debate on Discord turned into chaos. But the Zoomers elegantly got out of the situation: they made a list of candidates for the supreme power in the country, asked ChatGPT for help and asked it to analyse which of them was the most worthy candidate.
The AI thought and came up with the result: former head of the Supreme Court of Nepal Sushila Karki is the most suitable candidate to head the interim government and... she has already been appointed!
So, the Nepali youth went much further than the Albanian functionaries, who entrusted the AI with the position of "just" the Minister of Public Procurement, while the Zoomers entrusted ChatGPT with the fate of the entire country.
We sincerely hope that Sushila Karki will justify the neural network's credit of trust.
