Android 16 has never been this stylish: the Nothing OS 4.0 shell has been unveiled
Nothing has unveiled a new version of its proprietary Android 16-based shell.
Nothing OS 4.0 emphasises on minimalism, smoothness and AI control.
Here's What We Know
Participants in the beta testing programme will "soon" be able to install Nothing OS 4.0 and share their impressions, but the release date of the stable version is still unknown.
Key innovations of Nothing OS 4.0:
- Updated design: redesigned lock clock, unified UI elements and cleaner customisations;
- Extra Dark Mode: even deeper dark theme - for eye comfort and energy saving;
- Pop-up View: support for two floating app icons for convenient multitasking;
- TrueLens Engine: improved camera and gallery with new presets and intuitive controls;
- AI control: transparent settings, status prompts and usage dashboard.
System stability, app launch speed, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi performance have also been improved, and the lock screen is more responsive.
The new OS will be available on all smartphones except Phone (1). It will remain without firmware as the company has ended support for this smartphone, with company head Carl Pei hinting that some sort of software is in the works that will be a nice bonus for owners of the first Nothing smartphone.
