The British car manufacturer is postponing the resumption of production for another week, until 1 October. Thus, the pause after the cyberattack will drag on for a whole month.

Here's What We Know

Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) had planned to restart production at its plants in the UK and Slovakia on Wednesday, 24 September, but has postponed the restart as part of a plan to resume operations in a "safe and secure manner".

The decision means the company will lose a full month of car production, as it has not produced a single unit since shutting down all of its global production facilities in response to the cyberattack on 1 September. The impact on production volumes will become apparent when the company releases its production figures for the quarter, but JLR produced more than 80,000 Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles in the three months to the end of September last year.

In a statement last week, UK trade body the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) confirmed that the government is supporting JLR in restoring internal systems that were under attack.

As well as helping to restart production, government cyber security experts were helping to assess "any impact on the supply chain", which the Unite union said was on the verge of collapse.

The attack on 1 September paralysed JLR's operations. It brought production to a halt at all of the company's plants around the world, created problems with component orders and restricted dealerships. A number of JLR suppliers are on the verge of bankruptcy. According to independent estimates, one day of downtime costs JLR around £5 million.
