Chinese sources report that a new device has been added to the model range of the flagship Huawei Mate lineup. Huawei is developing a new smartphone, the Mate 80 Air, which is rumoured to be a slimmer version of the flagship Mate 80 and will be positioned as a competitor to the iPhone Air.

The device is expected to have a thinner body, lighter weight, and somewhat simplified specifications, while retaining the premium design of the Mate series. Similar to the iPhone Air, the smartphone will only be available in an eSIM version due to limited internal storage space. The liquid cooling system will have a mini-pump that will provide forced circulation of coolant. The smartphone will have a simplified camera system, probably no more than 2 cameras. Of course, the new product will run HarmonyOS and have a lot of AI functions.

Mate 80 Air will be part of a wider lineup that includes Mate 80, Mate 80 Pro, and Mate 80 Pro+. Huawei has not yet officially confirmed the existence of the Mate 80 Air, but insiders expect an announcement this autumn.
