Gamers had little doubt that the new PlayStation 5 exclusive Ghost of Yōtei would not disappoint them and would be a worthy sequel to Ghost of Tsushima (2020). Well, a week before the release of the game reviewers published their reviews, which not only confirmed the high level of the novelty from Sucker Punch, but also note its superiority over the previous part.

Here's What We Know

Critics agreed that Ghost of Yōtei is a great sequel, a cool action game and definitely one of the best games of 2025. It offers a slightly predictable but exciting and tense story, a brutal and varied combat system, modified stealth mechanics, stunning landscapes of feudal Japan and historical authenticity, and importantly - the game is not oversaturated with a huge number of tedious activities.

The musical accompaniment also received the most flattering reviews. As for the minuses, only a few critics talk about them, and they are not related to the objective problems of the game. Thus, one of the authors thought that Ghost of Yōtei is too "safe sequel", which has fewer sharp and ambiguous themes than Ghost of Tsushima. And another reviewer remarked that the writers were less focused on classic samurai cinema this time around.

Hours after the embargo was lifted, Ghost of Yōtei has the following scores:

  • 89 points - Opencritic, with 96% recommendation;
  • 87 points - Metacritic.

In comparison, Ghost of Tsushima Director's Cut received a score of 87 on PlayStation 5 and 90 on PC.
