The FAW-Volkswagen joint venture has produced the first batch of vehicles to be exported from China. 554 sedans of Magotan and Sagitar models will be sent to the Middle East.

Here's What We Know

The Magotan and Sagitar sedans share many similarities, although the Magotan is longer and is based on the latest generation Volkswagen Passat sold in Europe. Sales of the two models will start in the Middle East in November. It is possible they will be named Passat and Jetta, although this has not yet been confirmed.

Alongside these sedans, FAW-Volkswagen has confirmed that Jetta-branded models will also eventually head overseas, with Central Asian countries first on the list. Each export model will be customised to meet the requirements of the target markets, although details on whether Chinese powertrains will be retained have not yet been announced.

FAW-Volkswagen CEO Chen Bin said the company sees overseas expansion as a key growth factor and aims to become a leading exporter among Chinese and foreign auto joint ventures.

FAW-Volkswagen was founded in 1991 by Germany's Volkswagen Group and China's FAW Group. The joint venture currently produces models under the Audi, Volkswagen and Jetta brands and has five production bases in Changchun, Foshan, Chengdu, Qingdao and Tianjin.
