Ghost of Yotei's technical performance is unquestionable: the experts at Digital Foundry have praised the new PlayStation 5 exclusive
As we have already reported, the critics praised Ghost of Yotei, highlighting the interesting story, improved gameplay mechanics and excellent atmosphere of feudal Japan. The technical state of the game was evaluated in passing, but Digital Foundry experts, as always, went into this topic in detail and gave their verdict.
Here's What We Know
Digital Foundry experts have published a detailed technical analysis of the new PlayStation 5 exclusive. The game from Sucker Punch made a strong impression thanks to high-quality graphics, stable performance and advanced visual effects.
Ghost of Yotei offers four graphics modes: quality (4K/30fps), performance (60fps at 1080p on PS5 and 1440p on PS5 Pro), and two ray-tracing presets - Raytracing (30fps at 1440p) and Raytracing Pro (1080p/60fps with PSSR), the latter only available on PS5 Pro. Despite some compromises, such as texture noise in RT Pro, the global illumination effect noticeably improves the visual experience.
The Digital Foundry team also noted:
- stable frame rates across quality and performance modes (with occasional sags to 50fps without a first day patch);
- HDR implementation and object detail even in close-ups;
- improved animations, weather effects and creative solutions inherited from Ghost of Tsushima.
The experts were also pleased to see that the developers took a responsible approach to optimising Ghost of Yotei on the basic PS5: the engine is stable, and the visual effects - especially lighting and weather conditions - look impressive, although, of course, the graphics and performance are even better on the Pro model.
When We Can Expect It
Ghost of Yotei is set for release on 2 October 2025.
