As known from numerous rumors, Apple is developing a flexible iPhone. The company is attracted to the higher price segment dominated by Samsung with its Galaxy Fold. Now, Chinese companies have massively entered this niche, and Apple may face stiff competition. Insiders report that Apple has found a way to significantly reduce the cost of the hinge for the future foldable iPhone — without compromising reliability or functionality. According to information coming from the company’s supply chains, Apple has abandoned the complex mechanism used by Samsung and other brands and instead chose a simpler but effective option.

It is reported that the hinge design developed in collaboration with Foxconn has fewer parts and is 70-80% cheaper than the expected $100-$120, which is the usual cost of this component. Since no one believes that Apple will release its flexible smartphone cheaper than competitors, it is expected that the company will use this to increase the device’s profitability to please investors with better financial performance.
