The Chinese company BYD has developed, according to its claim, the first mass-produced hybrid powertrain capable of running on bioethanol. The Song Pro crossover for the Brazilian market received such a system. The presentation took place at the BYD plant in Camasari.

What is known

In Brazil, gasoline with bioethanol is widespread, so the appearance of an adapted version of the BYD model is logical. Although a hybrid running on "alcohol" fuel is indeed something new.

According to BYD, the 1.5-liter engine of the Super Hybrid system can run on any mixture of gasoline and ethanol. In the presented model, the internal combustion engine functions as a generator to charge the battery, which powers the electric motors.

The power unit was developed over two years by Chinese and Brazilian engineers. More than 100 specialists participated in the project.

The plant in Camasari began operations in July after 15 months of construction. The initial production capacity of the facility is 150,000 vehicles per year with the possibility of expansion to 300,000 units and in the more distant future — up to 600,000 cars per year. Thirty Song Pro COP30 units will be delivered to the UN climate summit, which will be held in Brazil.
