Media: Horizon Zero Dawn movie adaptation will be released in 2027 — Sony already has a film script ready
The legal proceedings between Sony and Tencent continue, sparked by the announcement of the Chinese game Light of Motiram, which visually and stylistically fully copies PlayStation's flagship franchise — Horizon.
During the hearings, a lot of information came from both sides, but Horizon fans will surely be interested in the leak about the movie's release dates.
What is known
The court documents state that PlayStation Productions and Columbia Pictures plan to start filming the movie based on Horizon in 2026 and intend to release it on screens in 2027.
The film crew has a script ready and it is expected that, like in the 2017 game (Horizon Zero Dawn), the main character will be the red-haired Aloy.
Thus, it can be expected that viewers will receive not a spin-off, but a film adaptation of an already familiar plot, albeit with significant changes, as the documents still feature the wording “based on.”
Currently, PlayStation Productions and Columbia Pictures are looking for a director and cast.
Initially, a series based on the famous game Horizon Zero Dawn was planned, which should have been released on the Netflix streaming service, but in the summer of 2024, it became known that it was canceled. This primarily happened due to the toxic and manipulative behavior of the showrunner Steve Blackman, but there were other difficulties as well.
