Information has appeared in the media about one of Microsoft's next steps in developing its ecosystem — moving further away from console releases, the company is developing its own emulator.

What is known

Reputable insider and Windows Central journalist Jez Corden reported that Microsoft is working on an official Xbox console emulator for PC and a range of other gadgets, which will allow Xbox games to be launched on them (currently Xbox users can only launch games from the console library on third-party devices using Xbox Cloud Gaming or when locally connected to a home Xbox Series X|S console).

It is expected that the first to get this opportunity will be the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X portable consoles, which went on sale a few days ago.

Most likely, Microsoft will not be able to achieve emulator compatibility with all games and will have to individually contact developers and publishers to adapt them, as was previously the case with backward compatibility of Xbox 360 games on Xbox One.

At least certain current games should work. Maybe they will initially limit to just a few, if this is all true, of course

Corden also confirmed that Microsoft will grant third-party manufacturers licenses to release various gadgets under the Xbox brand, including gaming PCs. In such a business model, the emulator will gain greater relevance and allow users to easily launch games.

In the coming years, we can expect a wide variety of Xbox hardware devices. Some will resemble PCs for televisions and will not support your entire old console library. However, the next generation of such devices will switch to new AMD chips that will be compatible with Xbox and Windows console games.
