Amazon servers 'down' — disruptions in Roblox, Fortnite, Playstation, Zoom, Viber, Duolingo, Clash of Clans, etc.
On Monday, October 20, 2025, at around 9:00 Central European Time, a major failure occurred in the infrastructure of Amazon Web Services (AWS), temporarily disabling a number of popular online platforms. Affected services include Snapchat, Duolingo, Roblox, Fortnite, Clash Royale, Playstation, Zoom, Viber, Clash of Clans, Facebook, Google, as well as other services relying on Amazon's AWS cloud solutions.
The outage lasted several hours and mainly affected servers in the eastern US region (the cluster is physically located in Northern Virginia and is one of the largest sites for services worldwide). Users reported issues with logging in, content loading, and app stability. AWS promptly confirmed the incident and began restoring services, gradually bringing them back to normal operation. As of 13:45 Central European Time, some services still experienced operational issues.
Amazon has not disclosed any details about the event, whether it is an internal issue or an act by Russian vandals is unknown. Amazon provides platforms for many commercial services worldwide. 'Putting all the eggs in one basket' is very beneficial for the company itself and its clients, but this situation vividly demonstrates that in case of serious incidents, dozens of services may suffer.
