Rumors confirmed: OpenAI announced the launch of its own AI browser — ChatGPT Atlas. The company intends to challenge Google Chrome and offer users a new way to interact with web resources.

What is known

During an online presentation, CEO Sam Altman and the development team unveiled key features of the novelty.

ChatGPT Atlas is an alternative to traditional browsers with a focus on personalization and automation. It integrates ChatGPT directly into the browser interface, allowing the user to:

  • receive explanations for any content on the page;
  • perform actions on behalf of the user (e.g., booking tickets, editing documents, planning vacations, and creating presentations);
  • save context and "memory" of past actions (the browser remembers preferences and interaction history, adapting recommendations and behavior).

By default, ChatGPT is used as the search engine.

Another important feature of ChatGPT Atlas is the division of the browser workspace into two parts: on the left is the web page, and on the right is a window with ChatGPT, available at any time.

OpenAI announced a global launch, but in fact, the browser will only be available in countries where ChatGPT operates. Atlas is already running on macOS, and versions for Windows, iOS, and Android will appear "soon."
