Samsung officially presented Galaxy XR — its first fully autonomous mixed reality headset, previously known under the code name Project Moohan. The new product is the debut device on the Android XR platform, created in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm, and marks the beginning of a new ecosystem of AI devices and an attempt by Samsung to set its own development vector in the field of spatial computing and AI interfaces.

What is known

Visually and conceptually, the gadget from Samsung resembles the Apple Vision Pro but has several advantages that will make it more popular.

Galaxy XR is equipped with two high-resolution micro-OLED displays, the flagship Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip, multiple cameras for passthrough mode and gesture tracking, as well as built-in speakers with spatial sound.

The device supports voice and gesture control, integration with the AI assistant Gemini, and is compatible with Android XR applications, including YouTube, Google Workspace, and creative tools. Gemini analyzes the space around the user to provide natural and intuitive interaction — from navigation to task execution.

Galaxy XR is made of lightweight plastic with a soft back and is adjustable using a dial. It does not have an external screen for displaying eyes. The headset offers a removable battery with autonomy up to 2 hours, USB-C interfaces, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.3.

The headset has already gone on sale only in Korea and the USA at a price of $1800 — almost half the price of the Apple Vision Pro, and a global launch is expected in the coming months.

Google notes that users who purchase the Galaxy XR before the end of the year will receive the Explorer Pack: 12 months of Google AI Pro, YouTube Premium, and Google Play Pass, as well as a 3-month subscription to YouTube TV, a 12-month NBA League Pass subscription, and access to NFL PRO ERA, Adobe's Project Pulsar, Asteroid, and Calm.
