Ford recalls 1.4 million vehicles due to rearview camera issues
Ford Motor Company is recalling 2015–2019 Ford Flex models, the 2015 Ford Explorer, the 2015 Lincoln MKT and MKZ, the 2015–2016 Ford C-Max, Ford Escape, and Ford Taurus, the 2016 Ford Fusion, the 2018–2019 Taurus, the 2019 MKT and Fiesta, as well as the 2020 Ford Mustang due to an issue with the rearview camera.
What's the defect
The recalled vehicles' rearview camera may display a distorted, inverted, or empty image when the transmission selector is in the 'R' position.
An empty or distorted image from the rearview camera can impair visibility of objects behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of an accident. Ford is aware of five incidents related to the defect. Fortunately, there were no injuries.
A total of 1,448,655 vehicles will be recalled. Dealers will inspect and replace the rearview camera if necessary, free of charge.
