Patent images of the new BYD pickup for Europe have appeared
The European Union Intellectual Property Office published a patent application by China's BYD for the design of a new pickup truck on October 23. This is indirect confirmation of the approaching official presentation of the model.
What is known
Judging by the published images, the vehicle has a load-bearing body structure. It is likely a shortened version of the BYD Song Plus crossover, first introduced in 2020. These vehicles have similar front sections, fenders, and doors. The model's proportions resemble the Hyundai Santa Cruz, created on the basis of the Hyundai Tucson crossover.
The new BYD pickup is equipped with two vertical rear lights connected by a thin LED strip. Plastic cladding on the lower part of the body enhances practicality. The fuel filler cap is located in the left rear fender, and the charging port cover is on the right. Other features of the BYD pickup include roof rack rails, a roll bar, and a rearview camera.
According to Chinese media, the new model will become the base vehicle in the Shark series, which is currently represented by the Shark 6 pickup.
No technical specifications for this model are yet available. According to preliminary information, the pickup will be equipped with a DMO plug-in hybrid system from the Shark 6 or less powerful powertrains, DM-i or DM-p.
