Microsoft announced Mico — a new virtual assistant that will be integrated into devices based on Copilot+.

Mico is a friendly character in the form of an amorphous blob with eyes and animation, appearing in the Windows interface to assist users in everyday tasks and interactions with AI.

What is known

Mico is a modern interpretation of Clippy — the iconic assistant from Microsoft Office, but now it operates on Copilot and neural networks.

Mico will be available on Copilot+PC lineup devices and will appear in the interface as an animated character responding to user actions and offering assistance, which includes:

  • tips on working with applications;
  • explanation of Copilot functions;
  • interaction with AI in a more human-like format;
  • potential integration with other Microsoft services.

Instead of dry text prompts, Mico will offer visual and emotional interaction, making working with Copilot more accessible and understandable.

Mico's debut was in the Learn Live mode, where the assistant acts as an interactive tutor — guiding the user to understand concepts rather than providing ready-made answers (as a professional teacher does). The mode uses visual cues and interactive boards and is designed for students or those learning new topics and languages.

When to expect it

The new assistant is currently only available in the USA, UK, and Canada. Microsoft has not yet announced the exact date for Mico's global launch, but the assistant is already being showcased at Copilot+ presentations and is likely to appear in future Windows updates.
