Apple is working on the next iPad Pro with an M6 chip and vapor chamber
According to the latest issue of Power On, Apple is working on the next generation of iPad Pro with an M6 processor. Despite the fact that the Apple M5 processor generation was only recently released, the company already has engineering samples of the Apple M6, the exact characteristics of which are not yet known, but to ensure its operation in a small tablet body with no active cooling, the company plans to use a vapor chamber for the first time.
What will change
In the iPad Pro model with the M4 chip, presented last year, Apple has already improved the cooling - added a copper radiator that dissipates heat in the Apple logo area on the back panel. But that wasn't enough, and now the company plans to integrate a vapor chamber into the model with the M6 chip to avoid limiting performance due to overheating.
Apple has already successfully applied a vapor chamber in the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max - this practically eliminated overheating during normal use, especially in games.
The problem of thermal throttling
Even in the 14-inch MacBook Pro with a fan, users are already noticing that the new M5 chip can overheat and reduce performance. It is likely that the next generation of Apple's chip will not overcome this problem.
According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, Apple is already working on integrating a vapor chamber into the iPad Pro. The company adheres to an 18-month update cycle for this line, so the new product may appear in the spring of 2027.
There are no other confirmed rumors about the M6 iPad Pro model yet, but it is expected to receive a new 2-nm M6 chip, which will debut in the Mac by the end of next year. Interestingly, there are no rumors suggesting that Apple is going to integrate a vapor chamber into the MacBook Air.
