Android assistant for $500 per month: Norwegian startup 1X has opened pre-orders for the cute NEO Home Robot
Norwegian startup 1X has opened pre-orders for the NEO Home Robot humanoid assistant, which attracts attention not only with its capabilities but also with its appearance.
What's known
NEO Home Robot is an android with a height of 1.68 meters and a weight of 30 kg. Unlike its plastic and iron counterparts, the 1X assistant is soft, homey cozy, has a cute appearance and wears a thin neutral-colored sweater.
The robot is designed for household work and can perform a wide range of tasks: load/unload washing or dishwasher machines, clean up, find lost items, lift and carry up to 25 kg of cargo and even independently go to the store.
Tendon Drive is used for locomotion - a tendon-based transmission system.
As hearing and vision organs, NEO has two 8 MP cameras and four microphones with 360° sound reception, and for conversation, the robot uses three built-in speakers and AI, which allows it to maintain a conversation, remember information, or answer a question.
NEO Home Robot is capable of connecting to Wi-Fi or 5G and thus finding information on how to perform actions it was not taught.
The stated autonomy of the robot is up to four hours of operation on the built-in battery, after which it independently connects to the charger.
The maximum movement speed of the android is 12 km/h. The robot is offered in beige, blue-gray, and black colors.
With a smartphone, the user can at any moment watch video “from the robot's eyes” to find out what it's doing.
The cost of NEO Home Robot is $20,000 (deliveries to the US will start in 2026), but the developer has an interesting offer: for $500 per month, you can take the robot on a subscription basis.
