LG Chem and ZEISS have entered into a partnership agreement to develop and supply photopolymer films for holographic displays integrated into car windshields. The companies aim for mass production of the solution for automakers by 2029.

What is known

As part of the collaboration, LG Chem will provide photopolymer films for the ZEISS Microoptics ecosystem, which will be integrated into car windows. These innovative materials allow the windshield to be turned into a transparent display, displaying navigation, movement data, and multimedia content.

LG Chem has already patented more than 150 solutions with high optical efficiency and heat resistance, and also has competencies in polymer synthesis, formulation, and coating. ZEISS, in turn, provides technological input in the field of microoptics and holography.

The signing ceremony took place at the LG Chem headquarters in the Yeouido Twin Towers skyscrapers. It was attended by LG Chem Vice President Ko Kyung-deok, ZEISS Microoptics Senior Vice President Stephan Höfer, and ZEISS Microoptics Vice President Dr. Viktor Schütz.

According to Schütz, joining forces with LG Chem will accelerate the market entry of reliable photopolymer materials for transparent automotive displays, ensuring innovation, high technical standards, and supply stability even for the most complex projects.

LG Chem CEO Shin Hakchol noted that the strategic partnership with ZEISS aims to strengthen the company's competitiveness in optical technologies and bring automotive displays to a new level through differentiated materials.
