Apple is developing a new budget MacBook, scheduled for release in the first half of 2026. According to Bloomberg, the device will compete with inexpensive Windows laptops and Chromebooks. It is expected to cost less than $1000.

What is Known

Currently, the cheapest company laptop, the MacBook Air, costs $1000. Students are offered a $100 discount. There is also the Mac mini for $600, but it is a desktop computer without a monitor, keyboard, or mouse.

The new laptop might be an option for users who currently use an iPad with a keyboard as a computer replacement. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the device will have a 13-inch display and run on the A18 Pro processor, which is used in the iPhone 16 Pro.

Kuo also notes that the model might be available in several colors: silver, blue, pink, and yellow, like the iMac.

The new MacBook will not replace existing models but will complement the lineup along with the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro with M5 processors, which the company plans to introduce at the beginning of 2026.
