More than three years after the release of Steam Deck, Valve has implemented a long-requested feature by users of the portable console.

What is known

The Steam Deck's battery life is quite limited, so energy efficiency is an important factor. In the latest beta update, Valve added the ability to install games on the console with the screen off.

This feature is available both when connected to a power source and during independent device operation.

The option can be activated manually; for this, all you need to do is press the console's power button, after which a context menu will appear on the screen with a clarification asking if the user wants to turn off the console screen.

Also, the power-saving mode is automatically activated after a period of inactivity.

Valve emphasizes that with the screen off, the Steam Deck does not go into sleep mode, and pressing any button will activate the display and show the game's download status. However, if the charge drops below 20%, the game installation will be interrupted and the gadget will go into sleep mode.

The feature is available to everyone as a preview update, and Valve encourages users to share their opinions on the quality of its implementation.
