In its recent November report, Google reported an increase in malicious programs disguising as VPNs. These fake applications imitate the interface of well-known brands, use attractive advertisements, and mislead users.

What is known

At first glance, such VPNs work properly, but in the background, they collect personal information, install spyware, banking trojans, and remote access tools. This poses a serious threat, as many users consider VPNs a means of protecting privacy.

Google emphasizes that even official app stores are not completely protected; fake VPNs can also appear there. Therefore, the company advises downloading software only from verified sources (including Google Play) and choosing VPNs with a verification certificate.

Users are also recommended to carefully check the permissions requested by the application. If a VPN requires access to contacts, photos, or messages – this is a warning signal. It is also worth activating Play Protect and not installing apps from unreliable websites.
