The social network Threads, created by Meta as an alternative to the X platform (formerly Twitter), announced a new development direction: focusing on podcasters and their audience. On Tuesday, the company reported that it is working on implementing new features to help creators more effectively promote their podcasts and for listeners to engage in show discussions.

What is known

Among the first innovations is the unique visual design of podcast links in the feed. Now they will have bright background colors and image thumbnails to stand out in the feed. Additionally, user profiles will have a separate section for placing podcast links, which will also be visually highlighted. This is intended to facilitate show promotion and increase the audience.

Meta emphasizes that it does not intend to turn Threads into a podcast streaming platform. Instead, the focus will be on creating a space for discussion, feedback, and interaction between creators and listeners. In particular, the company is working on analytical tools for podcasters to help assess the community's reaction to their episodes. There are also plans for features to facilitate discovering new podcasts and discussion topics.

Meta explains this focus by the high potential of the podcast community, which has a close connection with cultural trends and is capable of generating active discussions. Today, podcast discussions are scattered across various platforms: Reddit, X, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and Spotify. Threads aims to gather this audience in one place.

Currently, Threads has over 400 million active users monthly and 150 million daily, which is slightly less than X, which claims 600 million users per month. However, attracting even part of the podcast community could significantly narrow this gap.
