The new Volkswagen electric car designed exclusively for China doesn't look like a Volkswagen at all
Volkswagen has unveiled the new electric crossover ID. Unyx 08, created specifically as part of the 'Made in China for China' strategy. The car is completely unlike traditional Volkswagens: you can only recognize the brand by the emblem.
What is known
The novelty was developed jointly with the Xpeng company and is produced by the VW Anhui joint venture. The Unyx 08 is larger than the Touareg but smaller in dimensions than the Atlas. Externally, the electric crossover stands out with smooth lines, powerful shoulders, frameless doors, retractable handles, separate headlights, and an original light strip across the entire tail, transitioning into an illuminated VW logo. Surprisingly, a wolf is depicted on the third brake light.
The car features an 800-volt architecture, equipped with a CATL lithium iron phosphate battery, supports fast charging, and has a range of over 700 km in the CLTC cycle. Versions with one or two electric motors are available: rear — 308 hp, front — 188 hp, all-wheel drive — a total of 496 hp.
The ID. Unyx 08 model will go on sale in China next year. The novelty is expected to help Volkswagen regain its position in the world's largest car market: in the first half of 2025, VW's electric vehicle sales in China fell by 34%. The company plans to release about 30 electric vehicles for the local market by 2030, aiming to improve its position.
