Apple has postponed the Mac Pro update until 2026, instead focusing on Mac Studio
Apple may postpone the update of its desktop computer Mac Pro, at least until 2026. According to Mark Gurman in the Power On newsletter, Apple is currently not working on the M4 Ultra chip, which was planned for the new version of the Mac Pro. Instead, the company has focused on the development of the M5 Ultra, which will be used only in Mac Studio.
What is known
Mac Pro was repeatedly updated in 2013–2023. After experiments with design, including the cylindrical look, the current model returned to the classic look with a grid and received the M2 Ultra chip. However, internal reorientation is happening towards Mac Studio as the main professional desktop computer.
According to Gurman, Mac Studio will get M5 series chips, and the future of the Mac Pro remains uncertain at this time. Work on the M4 Ultra chip has already been stopped (along with the Mac Pro that was supposed to receive it being canceled), so the next powerful processor for desktops will be the M5 Ultra.
Currently, Apple's focus is exclusively on the updated Mac Studio. This indicates that no major Mac Pro update should be expected in 2026. According to sources within the company, Apple has actually abandoned further development of the Mac Pro. It is believed that Mac Studio is now the main strategy of Apple.
