Amazon officially announced the renaming of its satellite internet project from Project Kuiper to Leo. The company positions this change as a logical step since the term "LEO" is commonly used in the space industry and means Low Earth Orbit, where Amazon's satellite network will be located.

What is known

The project was launched in 2019 as an initiative to expand global access to high-speed internet. In earlier versions of the Kuiper website, availability was repeatedly mentioned: Amazon emphasized that it has experience in creating affordable devices like the Echo Dot and Fire TV Stick and plans to apply the same approach to satellite internet. However, with the rebranding to Leo, not only the name but also the mentions of "availability" disappeared, both in the FAQ and on the main page.

Instead, Amazon now emphasizes features such as stable video calls, 4K streaming, network scalability, and its readiness for business use. The use of Leo in rural or remote areas is mentioned in passing and is no longer a priority.
