The next Jeep Renegade will still not be fully electric

Jeep unveiled details about the second generation of the Renegade crossover, which will hit the market in the next two years. Contrary to previous plans, the new Renegade will not be exclusively electric — the company will also release hybrid versions to more easily adapt to changing environmental requirements in different countries.

What is known

The new Renegade will remain between the Avenger and Compass models in terms of size and cost: the length of the next generation will be about 4.24 meters.

According to Marco Montepeloso, Head of Product Planning Jeep in Europe, the audiences of the Renegade and Avenger hardly overlap. The compact Avenger is aimed at buyers who prioritize small dimensions, while the Renegade is suitable for those who value space and versatility.

The design of the new Renegade will remain recognizable: classic Jeep features, vertical profile, legendary grille with seven slots, modern LED headlights, and pronounced wheel arches. Short overhangs, decent ground clearance, and a combination of practical materials with digital technologies in the cabin are expected.

The Renegade will receive a new Stellantis platform, likely STLA Small. Together with the fully electric version, there will be front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive mild hybrids in the lineup. Jeep calls this the principle of ‘Freedom of Choice’: a variety of powertrains will allow the company to remain relevant in all regions, regardless of market peculiarities and legislative changes.

The start of sales for the electric Renegade in North America is scheduled for 2027 — it will cost from $30,000. In Europe, the starting price is expected to be below €30,000.

The Renegade will compete with the Dacia Duster, Citroën C3 Aircross, Opel Frontera, VW T-Roc, Peugeot 2008 of the new generation, and the electric Renault 4 E-Tech. The manufacturer promises to maintain the image of one of the most 'off-road' representatives in the B-SUV class.
