BMW iX3 traveled over 1000 km on a single charge, but repeating this achievement in normal conditions will be difficult

BMW conducted an experiment: the electric crossover iX3 traveled 1,007 kilometers on a single charge. The test was organized by the company's engineers: they started from the factory in Debrecen (Hungary), where this model is produced, and reached Munich (Germany), the home of BMW. At the same time, 2% charge remained in reserve, roughly for 20 kilometers.

What is known

The special route ran off highways to maintain a low average speed. Additionally, to reduce energy consumption, climate control, the audio system, and all additional comfort functions were turned off. During the trip, they even had to bundle up — in one frame, you can see the driver in a jacket and scarf.

This record exceeds the official range according to the European WLTP cycle (805 km) by 25%. The authors of the experiment managed to prove that smart route planning and forgoing some comforts allow outstanding results from modern electric cars.

However, it's important not to forget that such experiments with turning off all comforts and moving at minimal speeds do not reflect real travel conditions. Moreover, current versions of the BMW iX3 are equipped exclusively with two electric motors, but in the future, the company will likely offer a single-motor, even more economical modification.
