Hyundai introduced a new off-road vehicle concept, the Crater, which heralds the appearance of a powerful off-road model lineup for the brand.

What is known

The Hyundai Crater features an aggressive design with 33-inch off-road tires, skid plates, tow hooks, and additional LED headlights. The camouflage is designed in a pixel style reminiscent of the Ioniq 5 XRT. Additionally, unusual details are hidden throughout the vehicle, such as the Crater Man character, which has become a kind of logo for the concept and can be found on exterior accents, seatbelt buckles, and on the front dashboard.

Instead of the usual dashboard, there is a cylindrical unit, suspended on two belts inside. Four small, removable screens can display, for example, Spotify, and can be easily removed from the vehicle if desired. The interior atmosphere is created by warm orange lighting, and the unique Curve of Upholstery technique ensures there are no hard plastic surfaces—all elements are covered with soft materials with rounded corners.

Not much is known about the specifications yet. It is known that the Crater is an electric vehicle. Preliminary estimates suggest it is equipped with an 84 kWh battery and two electric motors from the Hyundai Ioniq 5, delivering up to 320 hp and 605 Nm of torque. Importantly, the concept is equipped with genuine off-road options: low-range gear management and differential locks, which is still quite rare for electric vehicles.

The Hyundai Crater will not appear on the market in this form and won't compete with the Ford Bronco or Jeep Wrangler. However, the concept demonstrates the direction in which the Hyundai XRT SUV lineup will develop. If the Crater styling is implemented in future production models, we can expect many interesting new products from the Korean brand.
