Google to Replace Voice Assistant in Android Auto: Gemini to Take Over from Google Assistant
Google is officially retiring its previous voice assistant. In Android Auto, its place will be taken by Gemini — a new AI assistant that already works on smartphones.
What is known
Gemini is being launched globally in 45 languages at once. It can do more than the old assistant: it can translate messages on the fly, find addresses in emails and immediately plot a route in Google Maps, find restaurants by filters (“pizzeria with signature sauce”), flower shops with rare varieties — and even charging stations for electric vehicles without queues.
The assistant can also summarize group chats and send responses, as well as pull data from Google Calendar, Google Tasks, Google Keep, Samsung Calendar, Samsung Reminder, and Samsung Notes. The list of apps is promised to be expanded in the future.
Google claims that voice interaction in the car will now become a “real conversation” rather than a set of dry commands.
Gemini will appear not only in Android Auto but also in systems based on Android Automotive OS — Volvo and Polestar will be the first to receive it.
