The main intrigue of the fall in the gaming community was the confrontation between Battlefield 6 and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. Long before the release of the shooters, Activision representatives confidently stated that their franchise was 'too big to fail,' but the first sales numbers and gamer reviews showed that Black Ops 7 managed to do it.

What is known

We already reported that Black Ops 7 became the worst game in the franchise according to user ratings on Metacritic, and the situation on Steam is not much better — gamers are actively criticizing the shooter, which undoubtedly affected its sales.

Microsoft and Activision remain uncharacteristically silent, but the first sales numbers on the European market speak of a complete failure of the 2025 game.

In Europe, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7's sales started 63% worse than Battlefield 6 and 50% worse than Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 — both physical and digital sales were taken into account.

The editor-in-chief of The Game Business, Christopher Dring, called the sales 'catastrophic' by the standards of the famous series.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 had a terrible launch in Europe. Many buyers rate the new project negatively, and this year the series faced very serious competition.

For objectivity, it should be noted that Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 was available in Game Pass from the first day, which significantly reduces the incentive to buy, but the 2024 shooter did not stop showing excellent sales and is still in great demand.

At the same time, let's recall, the circulation of Battlefield 6 in the first three days exceeded 7 million copies and according to Electronic Arts it became the best-selling shooter of 2025.
