Vertical Tabs in Chrome: Google is Testing a Long-awaited Feature

Google is working on vertical tabs in the Chrome browser. A feature that competitors like Microsoft Edge, Firefox, Brave, and Vivaldi have long offered is now being tested in Canary - an experimental version for developers.

What is Known

Instead of the classic tab placement at the top, the new interface allows them to be displayed in the left sidebar. To enable the mode, right-click on the horizontal tab bar and select the "Show tabs on the side" option. After that, the tabs will be arranged in a column on the left, with a tab search button and panel collapse switch appearing at the top. At the bottom, there is a plus sign for creating a new tab and grouping.

The feature is still in the early stages of testing, so the interface and functionality of vertical tabs may change. You can return to the classic look through the same context menu - click "Show tabs at the top".

When exactly the feature will become available in the stable version of Chrome is currently unknown.
