Don't Even Hope: Authoritative Insider Refutes Rumor of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet Release in 2026
In December 2024, Naughty Dog announced Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet — an ambitious and quite controversial action game led by The Last of Us creator Neil Druckmann.
It was immediately stated that the game would not be released soon, but recently information spread on the internet that supposedly Sony might release it in 2026.
What is Known
The source of the rumors about the imminent release of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet was known journalist and former IGN editor Colin Moriarty. In a recent episode of the Dan Allen Gaming podcast, he stated that the game is almost ready and will likely be shown at The Game Awards, followed by its release in 2026.
Many media outlets circulated this news, but according to a statement by Jason Schreier — an even more authoritative gaming industry journalist — the hype around the new PlayStation 5 exclusive is premature.
Schreier was brief:
I can assure you that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will not be released in 2026.
It is difficult to judge unequivocally which insider is right, but considering Naughty Dog's work speed and their attention to the smallest details, it truly seems unlikely that this game could be released in 2026.
In any case, The Game Awards 2025 is very near, and we will be able to verify at least part of Moriarty's claims on December 11.
Recall that Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet features an unusual retro-futuristic setting reminiscent of 80s cartoons and comics, and according to Druckmann, one of the main themes will be the influence of religion on society.
