ChatGPT received a specialized shopping assistant: will help compare, find discounts, and choose gifts

On the eve of 'Black Friday,' OpenAI is launching a new feature 'Shopping research' – a specialized tool for finding products, comparing characteristics, and assisting with purchases. It is already available to all ChatGPT users, including in the free version. Usage is almost unlimited during the holiday period.

What is known

The new assistant operates based on a separate GPT-5 mini model trained to process queries related to online shopping. It analyzes verified sites, selects reliable sources, and provides summarized information in the form of convenient cards or lists. For example, you just need to enter: 'find the quietest vertical vacuum cleaner for an apartment,' and the assistant will ask clarifying questions to narrow down the results.

The function can:

• compare different products;
• find profitable offers;
• pick analogues by photo;
• suggest gift ideas.

However, OpenAI warns that the tool may be mistaken about prices or product availability, so it is advisable to check the information on the seller's website before purchasing. It works best with categories where there are many technical characteristics, especially electronics, home appliances, and cosmetics.

The expansion of ChatGPT's shopping capabilities is happening amid active competition, as Google is also implementing artificial intelligence features in product searches.
