The presentation of the premium flagship series Huawei Mate 80 took place in China.

This time the company is focusing on design and versatility, but the main feature of the series is still its autonomy – with batteries ranging from 5700 to 6000 mAh, smartphones can operate for up to two weeks without recharging due to the Outdoor Mode power-saving technology – a feature aimed at travel enthusiasts, active leisure fans, and those in extreme situations.

Another feature in the same category is the emergency communication option without network connectivity with a range up to 13 km. Huawei positions this as an aid, for example, in the search for victims of natural disasters.

What is known

The series includes four models: Mate 80, Mate 80 Pro, Mate 80 Pro Max, and the exclusive Mate 80 RS Ultimate Design.

All are built on the Kirin 9030 chipset, equip ed with displays ranging from 6.75 to 6.89”, and feature enhanced cameras: a triple system with a periscopic lens in the basic versions to a quad-camera with two periscopes in the senior models. Additionally, a removable camera module was shown for the Mate 80.

The manufacturer claims a display brightness of up to 8000 nits and a performance improvement in Mate 80 by up to 42% compared to last year's Mate 70.

The memory capacity ranges from 12/256 GB to 20/1 TB, and the smartphones come with preinstalled HarmonyOS 6.

Interestingly, despite the presence of a characteristic ring on the body, during the Mate 80 presentation, the company did not mention the presence of a built-in magnet for using MagSafe accessories.

The color palette of the series includes Obsidian Black, Snow White, Dawn Gold, and Spruce Green on the Mate 80 and 80 Pro, while the Mate 80 Pro Max is available in Midnight Black, Polar Silver, Polar Gold, and Aurora Blue. The special edition Mate 80 RS will be released in just three colors: black, white, and purple.

The Mate 80 RS model feature is that it will be available only in a version with 20 GB of RAM with a storage capacity of 512 GB or 1 TB.

The cost of flagship smartphones Huawei Mate 80 (converted from yuan):

  • Mate 80 (12+256 GB) — $658
  • Mate 80 (12+512 GB) — $728
  • Mate 80 (16+512 GB) — $770
  • Mate 80 Pro (12+256 GB) — $840
  • Mate 80 Pro (12+512 GB) — $910
  • Mate 80 Pro (16+512 GB) — $980

  • Mate 80 Pro Max (16+1024 GB) — $1260.

The smartphones are already available for purchase in the Chinese market. A global release of the Mate 80 is unlikely, as Huawei previously announced it does not plan to release Kirin devices outside of China.
