The YouTube platform is working on an experimental feature called "Your Custom Feed" that aims to solve the problem of chaotic recommendations in users' home feeds. The innovation will allow viewers to independently create their recommendation feed with text prompts.

What's known

Test participants can already see the "Your Custom Feed" button next to the classic "Home" one. A user can click on it and enter a topic of interest, such as "Italian cuisine recipes" or "financial advice for beginners." Based on this, the service will select appropriate videos.

This is supposed to be an alternative to the current recommendation system that often doesn't meet expectations. For example, after a few Disney videos, YouTube might bombard you with similar content, even if it doesn't match your preferences. The new feature will help avoid this by transitioning from passive scrolling to active customization.

YouTube is not the only one experimenting with personalization: the social network Threads is testing its feed customization system, and X (formerly Twitter) plans to integrate the Grok chatbot to change the feed via requests.
