Nissan Recalls Over 40,000 Cars in the US Due to Bubbles in Windshield
Nissan announced a recall in the US of 41,797 Sentra sedans of the 2025 model year due to the potential appearance of air bubbles in the windshields.
What is known
The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reported that the bubbles may obstruct the driver's view. This violates federal safety standards related to 'glazing materials.'
The reason for the recall was a manufacturing issue with the supplier, which causes air bubbles to form in the laminated layer of the windshield. Regulations prohibit 'bubbles or defects extending beyond 13 mm (0.5 inches) from the outer edge of the windshield.'
The issue was first noticed in August during a routine audit at the Aguas II plant in Mexico when air bubbles were found between the glass sheets and the polyvinyl butyral film.
Nissan began an investigation together with the supplier Vitro and ultimately identified a displacement of the guide pins in the glass molds. The displacement 'causes uneven pressure distribution at the top of the windshield, preventing normal air removal during assembly.'
The defect is presumed to be present in approximately 2.2% of the recalled cars. The manufacturer is not aware of any warranty claims or accidents related to this issue.
As part of the recall campaign, dealers will check the windshields for air bubbles and replace them if necessary. The procedure may take up to 2.5 hours.
