Sony has taken a serious step in competing with Samsung in the mobile photography segment and introduced the new Lytia 901 sensor with a resolution of 200 MP.

What is known

Lytia 901 has a 1/1.12” format, 0.7 µm pixel size, and proprietary Quad-Quad Bayer Coding (QQBC) technology, which combines 16 pixels of one color to enhance light sensitivity. The built-in AI engine is responsible for image processing directly on the sensor: it improves detail in digital zoom, expands dynamic range, and allows 4K video recording with 4x zoom at up to 30 fps.

Compared to the competitor Samsung Isocell HP2 (1/1.3”, 0.6 µm pixel), the novelty from Sony promises better photos in low light and better use of high resolution.

Sony claims that the Lytia 901 is the first sensor on the market with 4x digital zoom and support for 4K video recording at 120 fps in a 4x binning configuration.

The first smartphones with Lytia 901 are expected in 2026. According to insiders, the first photo flagships with the new sensor will be OPPO Find X9 Ultra and vivo X300 Ultra.
