In September, the long-awaited release of Hollow Knight: Silksong took place. The game received a huge number of rave reviews, attracted a great deal of public interest and even caused a temporary shutdown of servers on several online platforms, including Steam.

The first part of Hollow Knight did not have such a resounding success at release, but over time gained cult status and is highly regarded by metroidvania fans. Many developers would exploit such hype and release a third part of the series, but Team Cherry has other plans.

What is known

Representatives of Team Cherry spoke with renowned journalist Jason Schreier of Bloomberg and shared their creative plans.

They are currently busy with the content support for Silksong and intend to release several major updates and a number of DLCs. Developers do not rule out that Hollow Knight may receive a sequel in the future, but they admitted they would like to work on a completely new game in a different setting and an unexpected genre for them.

In any case, it is still far from realizing such distant ideas, but it would be interesting to see what game the creators of the hardcore metroidvania about cute underground dwellers would create.
