Motorola Edge 50 Ultra begins receiving penultimate major update
The flagship smartphone Motorola Edge 50 Ultra, which cost €1,000 at the start of sales in 2024, has begun receiving an update to Android 16. This is the penultimate major operating system update for the model.
What is known
The update started in Brazil and is being rolled out gradually. It has the firmware number W1UV36H.61-15 and takes up 1.64 GB. The changelog lists updated visual style, security improvements, protection against malicious apps, transparency of background processes, and better compatibility with LE Audio devices. The Android security update is specified separately.
The smartphone was released with the pre-installed version of Android 14. In December 2024, the device received Android 15. In total, Motorola promised three major OS updates, which noticeably fall short of the approach by Google and Samsung, which support their flagships for seven years.
Currently, users in Brazil are receiving the update. It is expected that Android 16 will soon become available in other regions, including Europe and India. Security updates for the Edge 50 Ultra are planned to be sent until April 2028.
The current price of the device on Amazon.de is about €600.
