Toyota has unveiled the European version of the updated bZ4X electric car. The crossover received new battery packs, more powerful engines, new interior materials, and a revised exterior design.

What is known

The updated Toyota bZ4X comes with battery packs of 57.7 kWh and 73.1 kWh. The first one is only available for the front-wheel-drive version, the second for both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive modifications.

The maximum power of the front electric motor has increased by 11%, from 150 to 167 kW, and the maximum power of the rear has increased from 80 to 87 kW. In the all-wheel-drive version of the bZ4X, the total power is 252 kW/343 hp, making this model one of the most powerful Toyotas available in Europe.

The maximum range is achieved in the front-wheel-drive version with a 73.1 kWh battery and 18-inch wheels. This version can travel 569 km on a full charge according to the WLTP cycle. Moreover, in the all-wheel-drive configuration, the bZ4X can now tow trailers weighing up to 1500 kg. With front-wheel drive, the load capacity remains at 750 kg.

The new battery packs, supplied by Prime Planet Energy Solutions (PPES), are configured to fit an additional 26 cells in each module without increasing the device's dimensions. The 57.7 kWh battery pack contains 78 cells, and the new higher capacity module contains 104 cells. The previous module had 96. PPES is a joint venture between Toyota Motor Corporation (51%) and Panasonic Corporation (49%), founded in 2019.

A new 22 kW onboard charger is installed for AC charging of high-end configurations. Charging time from 10-80% SoC is 2.2 hours. Using a fast 150 kW DC charger, it can charge from 10 to 80% in 28 minutes.

The main changes in exterior design focus on developing the signature design of Toyota's front end. Slim headlights are combined with a new central LED position light that mimics the front edge's hammer-style. The lower grille and bumper have been redesigned, and the wheel arches are now adorned in "piano black" color.

The new bZ4X will be launched in several European markets in December, followed by launches in other markets in January and February 2026.

The model range is simplified to two trims — Mid and High. The Mid trim is available with a 57.7 kWh battery and front-wheel drive, as well as a 73.1 kWh battery with front and all-wheel drive. High trims use the higher capacity battery and are offered with front or all-wheel drive.
