Google has simplified virtual try-ons: now just a selfie is enough to pick clothes online
Google has updated the virtual clothes try-on function, so now just a selfie is enough to use it. Previously, users had to upload a full-length photo.
What's Known
Using the Gemini 2.5 Flash Image model from the Nano Banana series, the system creates a full digital user body image for virtual try-ons.
After uploading a selfie, the user can choose their usual clothing size, and the system will generate several images. One of them can be saved as the main one for future try-ons. If necessary, users can still upload a full-body photo or choose a model with a different body type.

The function is already available in the USA. To use it, just click the "try it on" icon in the search results or Google Shopping.
In the summer, the company launched a separate app Doppl, which allows trying on items with AI. This week the app received a recommendation feed where you can instantly buy the shown clothing.
The feed shows videos with real products and offers outfits formed based on the user's style. The content is presented in a short video format, similar to TikTok or Instagram.
